There is a lot of talk about Sarah Palins lack of experience. And some would say this is cause for concern, take for instance Andrew Sullivan from the Atlantic Journal while on Bill Maher’s HBO show:
No, we have we have to talk about Palin. I mean, Bill, let me just say, I, I don’t even want to go this far in talking about her. She is a farce. This, this, this nomination. This, the nomination of this person to be potentially President of the United States next January. That’s, that’s the possibility. She could be president next January, is a joke. It is absurd. It is something that should be dismissed out of hand as the most irresponsible act any candidate has ever made. Bill, Bill, let me just tell you one thing…
Like a bull dog without lipstick Mr. Sullivan was slinging spit and foam while spewing his discomfort with Ms. Palin’s inexperience. But, does experience have anything to do with qualification to be on the ticket?
Last week we celebrated the signing of the Constitution and one has to ask, if those who drafted this remarkable document were learned and experienced then they surely would have put forth the qualifications to be President in the Constitution would they not? So what are the qualifications to be President according to the Constitution?
No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.
This will come as a shock to those in the media because there is no provision for vetting the candidate through the 4th estate. And if experience is what the country wants or needs, what has it got us the past 30 years? The current economic mess! Maybe no Washington experience is exactly what the people need at this time. Someone who doesn’t have ties to the “good ole boy” network. Maybe it’s time to get rid of the lifetime politician!
I’m reminded of a conversation I once had with my father who ran a family business and hired many employees over time. He was looking over a resume that showed the applicant had experience in many fields but he didn’t hire the man. I asked him why, he said; Son, I don’t hire anyone with so much experience because it shows he’s not capable at any one of those experiences.
